About the Committee

Who we are

A civil society structure — independent, multi-stakeholder and multidisciplinary — set up to promote and support the Green Corridor's participatory governance.

In accordance with the Green Corridor Charter and the Partnership Agreement, the independent Committee:

  • takes part in the deliberations and decision-making processes in which it is involved;
  • contributes to the development of the rules, tools and procedures within its mandate;
  • contributes to the improvement and monitoring of the rules, tools and procedures in which it is involved;
  • provides an independent perspective through review, assessment, monitoring and critical feedback.

An independent structure, not a management body

The Committee does not manage the Green Corridor. It ensures that its implementation remains transparent, inclusive and respectful of community rights.

Our values

The principles that guide the Committee's action.

  • Participation and respect for rights

    Promote effective and inclusive participation of communities and ensure respect for their rights, including FPIC where it applies.

  • Equity and benefits for communities

    Ensure that conservation and socio-economic development genuinely benefit communities, in respect of their rights and livelihoods.

  • Transparency and accountability

    Promote accessible information, transparent dialogue and follow-up of commitments and recommendations among Green Corridor actors.

  • Independence and integrity

    Preserve the autonomy, impartiality and integrity of the Committee in its monitoring, analysis and formulation of opinions and recommendations.

The territory

The Kivu-Kinshasa Green Corridor

A participatory management model that actively involves local communities in protecting biodiversity while promoting sustainable livelihoods.

Community rights

Participation, protection and recourse

The Committee ensures respect for the rights of local communities and indigenous peoples and their effective consideration in the governance of the Green Corridor.

  • Participation and consent

    Communities must be informed and effectively take part in decisions that affect them, in compliance with FPIC where required.

  • Rights, livelihoods and benefits

    Projects must respect community rights, protect their land, resources and livelihoods, and contribute to tangible benefits for them.

  • Grievances, recourse and conflict prevention

    Accessible mechanisms must allow concerns to be heard, complaints to be handled, and harm, tensions and conflicts to be prevented.
